Head of Alawite Council praises Kurds’ steadfastness, unity

The Head of the Supreme Alawite Islamic Council in Syria and the diaspora, Sheikh Ghazal Ghazal, issued a statement stressing the importance of unity among members of the Alawite sect. He praised the resilience of the Kurdish people and the Druze community in facing challenges and oppression, describing them as "a model of solidarity and steadfastness in upholding the truth."

In the statement, Sheikh Ghazal commended the determination of the Kurdish people, saying: "I begin by congratulating and extending my blessings to our Kurdish brothers, appreciating their unity, cohesion, and courageous stances in support of what is right." He continued: "In our brothers, we have seen an admirable example of unity and solidarity."

Sheikh Ghazal emphasized that unity today is not just a slogan but "a living approach we practice," asserting that the Alawite community "has always stood for a just cause that seeks to end injustice, not justify it," and adding that "for us, patience is the core of our livings."

He called on those who try to sow discord to back down, saying: "If you are not going to support the interests of the community and the protection of its people, then remain silent and let the wise lead the way."

In a related context, Sheikh Ghazal appealed to the international community to swiftly support "comprehensive political solutions" such as "international protection, decentralized autonomous administration, or federalism," stressing the "inherent right to autonomous administration and respect for our distinct identity," and reaffirming the commitment to peaceful, democratic solutions as a guarantee of dignity and protection of rights.

Sheikh Ghazal also condemned the ongoing violations against unarmed civilians, including genocide, siege, starvation, enslavement, abduction, and murder, and rejected the pretexts used to justify such crimes.
