HDP discusses Imrali files with AKP

A delegation from the HDP conducted a prolonged meeting with the leadership of the Turkish Justice and Development Party, which lasted over two hours. During this meeting, both parties deliberated on several significant political and legal issues currently affecting the Turkish arena.

The delegation from the Equality and Democracy of the Peoples Party was headed by the co-chairs of the party, Tolay Hatem Oğulları and Tunger Bakırcan, along with the two deputies of the parliamentary group, Kolistan Kılıç Koçyiğit and Sızaei Temelli. On the other side, the meeting was attended by the Justice and Development Party’s Vice President Efkan Ala, spokesperson Ömer Çelik, parliamentary group chairman Abdullah Güler, and deputy chairwoman Özlem Zengin.

A statement issued by the Equality and Democracy of the Peoples Party indicated that the meeting featured an in-depth discussion regarding the democratic transformation process in Turkey, the recent developments following the "Peace and Democratic Society" initiative, the delegation from Imrali’s meeting with leader Abdullah Ocalan, and the resolutions of the 12th Congress of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), as well as the subsequent developments.

The meeting also addressed ways to advance the political process and the anticipated role of the Turkish Parliament in this regard, in addition to discussing the establishment of a special committee to monitor these issues.

During the meeting, the delegation from the Equality and Democracy of the Peoples Party emphasized the importance of approving amendments related to the enforcement of rulings, particularly concerning ill prisoners, before the upcoming Eid al-Adha. This reflects the aspirations of the Kurdish community and the broader Turkish public for tangible steps in this direction.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Equality and Democracy of the Peoples Party announced that this round of political meetings with parties had been temporarily concluded, with detailed briefings and extensive evaluations to be provided at a later time.
