The Free Media Union issued a statement today marking the third anniversary of the martyrdom of Najm al-Din Sinan. He was martyred on August 23, 2023, when the vehicle he was traveling in—alongside journalist Dalila Agid—was targeted by Turkish forces on the Qamishlo–Amuda road. The pair were performing their professional duties for JIN TV at the time; the attack resulted in Sinan’s martyrdom and left Agid with severe injuries.

The Union emphasized that targeting journalists and media crews while they carry out their duties constitutes a violation of press freedom and of the international laws and charters that guarantee the protection of journalists. It asserted that such attacks aim to curtail the media's role in conveying the truth and documenting events.

In its statement, the Free Media Union reaffirmed its commitment to continuing media work, reporting the facts, and defending the rights of journalists to perform their duties without facing threats or being targeted
