The fourth group of displaced residents from the countryside of Serêkaniyê and Tel Tamr set out this morning toward their villages and lands. The group includes around 514 families, totaling 4,584 people, and was accompanied by a government delegation that included Deputy Commander of the Internal Security Forces Mahmoud Khalil (Siamand Afrin) and presidential delegation member Mustafa Abdi.

Speaking at a press conference following the departure of the group, presidential delegation member Mustafa Abdi said security conditions were now ready to receive the displaced residents after the necessary measures had been taken to protect them from the dangers of landmines and remnants of war. He added that assistance, including medicines and food baskets, would be provided and their basic living needs secured.

Abdi said return convoys would continue until all displaced residents return to their homes before the New Year. He explained that around 50 families would leave Serêkaniyê today for their homes in Hasakah, while additional groups would depart every few days, paving the way for residents of central Serêkaniyê to return to their homes.

For his part, Mohammed Khalil, deputy commander of the Internal Security Forces in Hasakah, said the current group would head to 75 villages that had been cleared and prepared to receive residents. He added that two more groups of displaced Serêkaniyê residents would leave for their homes next week.

Khalil also said that 50 families from Serêkaniyê would simultaneously head to their homes in the Gweiran neighborhood of Hasakah. He explained that the homes to be vacated in Serêkaniyê would be allocated to returning displaced residents from the fifth group or an earlier group.
