Activists on social media shared video clips from the southern Syrian city of Sweida, showing women of various ages holding weapons; an unusual move that comes in the wake of the deadly assault on the city and surrounding areas.

In one of the videos, a group of young women is seen carrying weapons and wearing military vests. Another clip shows a young woman walking through a city street with a weapon, while in a separate video, another woman is seen standing next to a firearm.

The footage spread following the military escalation in Sweida, after an attack launched by armed forces affiliated with Syria’s transitional government. The latest figures from the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights indicate that the assault resulted in the deaths of 1,311 people, including 196 cases of field execution.

The recent escalation has sparked serious concerns amid reports of dozens of women and young girls missing or abducted.

ANHA agency had previously published a list containing the names of around 70 women, girls, and young girls who had gone missing or were believed to have been abducted in Sweida. Field sources, however, suggest the actual number may be significantly higher.
