Families of Martyrs Council: Releasing detainees is sacred right for their families

The Families of Martyrs Council in the city of Hasakah affirmed that revealing the fate of detainees and securing their release is a sacred right for their families, calling on the Syrian Interim Government to expedite their release and disclose the fate of the missing. The council also urged international bodies and humanitarian organizations to guarantee their physical and psychological safety.

The Families of Martyrs Council in Hasakah issued a statement condemning the continued detention by the Syrian Interim Government of male and female fighters of the Syrian Democratic Forces, as well as civilians who were captured during withdrawal operations from several areas under agreements, despite the signing of the January 29 agreement.

According to the statement, which was read in Arabic by Women’s Committee member Najah Qawas and in Kurdish by Archive Office member Mohammed Othman, the detainees’ issue is not merely a political file or a bargaining tool, but a humanitarian and moral cause that touches the conscience of every family in the regions of Rojava.

The council stressed that the continued detention of prisoners in conditions lacking the minimum standards of justice and international law constitutes a blatant violation of human rights.

The council called on the Syrian Interim Government to immediately release all detainees and prisoners and to reveal the fate of the missing without conditions, and urged all international parties and humanitarian organizations, including the International Committee of the Red Cross, to fulfill their legal and moral responsibilities and ensure the physical and psychological safety of the detainees.

The council stated that revealing the fate of detainees and returning them to their families is a sacred right for their relatives, affirming its commitment to continue supporting the detainees’ cause until they are seen free among their families.

Cities across Rojava have been witnessing daily protests organized by families of detainees, political activists, and civil society representatives, denouncing the delay of the Syrian Interim Government in implementing the clause related to the release of prisoners.

The Commander-in-Chief of the Syrian Democratic Forces, Mazloum Abdi, stated that the number of military and civilian detainees held by the Syrian Interim Government stands at 1,070 persons.
