Today, a protest vigil was organized in Free Woman Square in the city of Amuda to demand the release of detainees held by the Syrian Interim Government since early January 2026.

Families of the detainees and residents of the city took part in the vigil, carrying photos of their sons and banners reading: “Free Our Detainees.” Protesters also chanted: “We want our detainees, we want our sons.”

The January 29 agreement between the Syrian Democratic Forces and the Syrian Interim Government stipulates a phased prisoner exchange between the two sides. Four batches of detainees have so far been released: the first on March 10, the second on March 19, the third on April 11, and the fourth on May 8. A total of 1,032 detainees held by the Syrian Interim Government have been released.
