This morning, the Co-Chair of the Foreign Relations Department of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, Ilham Ahmed, and the General Commander of the SDF, Mazloum Abdi, arrived at the venue of the Middle East Peace and Security Forum – MEPS 2025 at the American University in the city of Duhok in Southern Kurdistan, to take part in the forum’s activities, which began yesterday under the title: “Managed Chaos; A New Middle East.”

They were received by Iraq’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Hoshyar Zebari, and the President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, who welcomed them officially before they entered the venue, amid notable political and media presence.

The second day’s sessions began a short while ago. This year’s forum includes, alongside officials from Iraq and Southern Kurdistan, a large number of political figures, academics, and researchers from North America, Europe, and the Middle East. The sessions and discussions address political transformations and security challenges unfolding across the region.

It is worth noting that MEPS is an annual conference organized by the American University in Duhok since 2019. The 2025 edition marks its fifth session, held over two days with broad participation from regional stakeholders and decision-makers.

A detailed assessment and explanation by the General Commander of the SDF, Mazloum Abdi, is scheduled, along with a discussion session featuring Ilham Ahmed as part of the forum’s program.
