According to the management of the city's automatic bakery, both public and private bakeries have faced difficulties securing flour for about a week due to delays in deliveries and reduced quantities. The disruption stems from a lack of diesel needed to operate flour mills, resulting in delayed flour production and, at times, the complete shutdown of both automatic and traditional bakeries.

The bakery administration called for establishing a strategic flour reserve to ensure bakeries can continue operating during emergencies or delays in flour deliveries, guaranteeing uninterrupted bread production and meeting the needs of local communes and residents.

A source from the Al-Darbasiyah Fuel Committee said the Jazira had previously received 59 diesel tankers to meet the needs of various sectors, but daily deliveries have now fallen to just 16 tankers.

The source added that 10 tankers are allocated to the larger cities, while the remaining quantities are distributed among smaller towns after the governorate was divided into two distribution zones. The first includes Amuda and Derik, while the second covers Hasakah, Al-Darbasiyah, Tel Tamr, and Zirghan.

The source stressed that Al-Darbasiyah receives only one tanker every two days, an amount insufficient to meet the city's needs for fuel stations, electricity generators, and both public and private sectors. This has directly affected diesel availability and the operation of flour mills and bakeries.

The crisis comes as diesel continues to disappear from fuel stations, leading to recurring generator shutdowns and disrupting various public services.

The shortage has also affected residents of surrounding villages. When village bakeries stop operating, people are forced to travel to Al-Darbasiyah to buy bread. However, they often encounter bread shortages in the city's bakeries as well due to the lack of flour, further worsening their hardship and fueling public frustration.
