Derik residents commemorate martyr Ziyad Halab, his companions

Thousands of residents, along with displaced people from Afrin and al-Shahba, the Internal Security Forces, and representatives from various segments of Derik city and political parties, gathered on Tuesday at al-Hurriyya (The Freedom) Square in Derik, in Jazira canton, to participate in a march commemorating the martyr Ziyad Halab and his comrades.

The participants carried pictures of the martyr Ziyad Halab and pictures of the martyrs of the Sheikh Maqsoud, Ashrafiyeh, and Bani Zeid resistance, chanting slogans condemning the massacres committed against civilians, "The martyr Ziad is immortal, and the martyrs of Sheikh Maqsoud are immortal."

The march proceeded towards the Corniche Road, and upon reaching the Martyr Bawer Center for Revolutionary Youth in Derik, the participants held a minute of silence.

After that, Mohamed Abdel Rahim, the member of the Democratic Union Party in Derik, delivered a speech commemorating the martyr Ziyad Halab and all the martyrs of the Sheikh Maqsoud, Ashrafiyeh, and Bani Zeid resistance.

He praised their resistance and historic struggle in defending the people and neighborhoods, and emphasized the importance of continuing the struggle and conjuring up the values of steadfastness and unity.

 The march concluded with renewing the pledge to the memory of the martyr Ziyad Halab and all the martyrs of the resistance of Sheikh Maqsoud, Ashrafieh and Bani Zeid.
