The Democratic Media Union issued a condolence message on the passing of the journalist and writer Hüseyin Aykol, who passed away on Thursday from a brain hemorrhage. The message included,

"The mind of free journalism, our esteemed teacher and comrade Hüseyin Aykol, has departed from us. His passing has deeply saddened us. We had been patiently awaiting his recovery, but unfortunately, we have lost him. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, loved ones, our people, and the free press community.

Our comrade Hüseyin Aykol, as a true Turkish revolutionary and journalist, stood beside the Kurdish people and their struggle for freedom at a time when genocidal attacks against them were escalating. He believed that the democratization of Turkey could only be achieved through the freedom of the Kurdish people. Therefore, he joined the struggle for freedom and established great values.

Professor Hüseyin Aykol dedicated 36 years of his 51 years in journalism to establishing and developing the traditions of free journalism, until his health problems worsened and ultimately led to his death. He worked tirelessly, striving and fighting for this cause." In a self-sacrificing manner, and as a teacher to us, the workers of the free press. He was a companion to the people, women, the Kurdish toilers, and all the oppressed. On this path, he became a strong fighter and the voice of thousands of detainees in prisons. Through his writings, the democratic public opinion became aware of the truth, and he trained himself and increased his knowledge.

We know and feel that while Comrade Hüseyin Aykol has departed from us physically, he will be with us in every moment and in every task we undertake.

As his students, we will apply what we learned from our esteemed teacher, continue our tireless work, not to let his pen fall silent, and achieve his desired goal of a free Kurdistan and a democratic Turkey.

We once again extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of our teacher, to our people and friends, and in the person of Professor Hüseyin Aykol, we renew our promise of victory, a promise we made to all the martyrs of the revolution.
