The Democratic Islam Conference said in a written statement to the public today that preserving civil peace is a collective responsibility that must not be taken lightly, describing it as a strong bond that protects society. It called on people not to give in to individual impulses or random acts that could lead the region to disastrous consequences.

The statement urged intellectuals, opinion leaders, tribal and family elders, mosque imams and preachers to fulfil their historic and moral role in raising awareness, offering guidance and quelling the flames of discord, while promoting the values of tolerance, brotherhood and peaceful coexistence.

The full statement included the following:

"Statement to the public: A call for calm and the preservation of civil peace

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful,

Praise be to Allah, who sent His prophets with peace to unite people around a common word. May peace and blessings be upon the one sent as a mercy to all worlds, and upon his fellow prophets and messengers, the beacons of guidance and advocates of peace.

In light of the recent circumstances and developments affecting our region, and at a critical moment that calls for the highest levels of awareness and wisdom from us all, we address this statement to our people and fellow citizens in Hasakah Governorate, in all their diverse components, to reaffirm the longstanding national, moral and social principles that safeguard everyone's security and dignity and pave the way for building a safe and stable future.

Allah Almighty says in the Holy Quran: “O you who have believed, enter into Islam completely [and perfectly] and do not follow the footsteps of Satan. Indeed, he is to you a clear enemy.” [Al-Baqarah 2:208]

Out of a sense of religious, moral and social responsibility, we call on our brothers and fellow citizens from all communities to uphold our national principles and stand united as an impenetrable barrier against calls for incitement, which only sow discord, with the people of our community bearing the brunt of their consequences. Such calls serve none of the communities in our beloved governorate.

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: “A Muslim is one from whose tongue and hand other Muslims are safe.” (Agreed upon by Al-Bukhari and Muslim.)

First, preserving civil peace: We affirm that civil peace is the strong bond that holds our society together and the shield that protects it. Preserving it is a collective responsibility that must not be taken lightly or put at risk under any circumstances.

Second, rejecting hate speech and incitement: We urge everyone to refrain entirely from provoking discord or spreading hate speech and rumors, whether in public gatherings or on social media platforms, given their destructive impact in dividing society and sowing resentment.

The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: “Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should speak good or remain silent.” (Agreed upon by Al-Bukhari and Muslim.)

Third, de-escalation and self-restraint: We call on everyone to be guided by reason and wisdom, to exercise patience and self-restraint, and not to give in to individual impulses or random acts that could lead the region to disastrous consequences.

Fourth, the role of community leaders and religious figures: We call on intellectuals, opinion leaders, tribal and family elders, mosque imams and preachers to fulfil their historic and moral role in raising awareness, offering guidance and quelling the flames of discord, while emphasizing the values of tolerance, brotherhood and peaceful coexistence in their sermons and public addresses.

Allah Almighty says in the Holy Quran: “No good is there in much of their private conversation, except for those who enjoin charity or that which is right or conciliation between people.” (Surah An-Nisa, 4:114)

Wisdom and awareness are our means of overcoming this sensitive period. Through collective solidarity and the efforts of wise members of society, we can prevent anyone seeking to undermine our security and stability from achieving their aims.

May Allah protect our land and its people and spare us all from trials and discord, both apparent and hidden."
