Democratic Islam Conference rejects describing war as conquest, victory

The Democratic Islam Conference issued a statement on Tuesday at al-Shalah Mosque in Qamishlo regarding the current situation in the region. The statement was read by Suleiman Ahmed Ali, the co-chair of the Democratic Islam Conference in Jazira canton, in the presence of a number of scholars, imams, and preachers from Qamishlo.

The statement strongly condemned the incitement issued by the Minister of Religious Endowments, who described the war against the Kurdish and Arab people in Jazira region as a "conquest and victory."

The statement emphasized that this inflammatory speech contradicts the teachings of Islam, and that words are a trust and a responsibility, especially when uttered by scholars, citing the verse: "Not a word does he utter, but there is a watcher by him ready (to record it)."

The statement added that the scholars, imams, and preachers of the Jazira region condemn this incitement, which justifies the shedding of innocent blood and transforms the war against peaceful civilians into a "conquest and victory," in clear contradiction to the Holy Quran and the Prophetic Sunnah, which forbid killing and call for the preservation of life.

The statement addressed the Minister of Religious Endowments, saying, "If there is any truth to be spoken, it should be a call to stop the attacks on the innocent people in Jazira, confirming that the verses being cited were revealed in the context of the Prophet Muhammad's (peace be upon him) wars against the polytheists, asking, "Are the people of Jazirz polytheists who are waging war?"

The statement stressed that the Minister of Religious Endowments bears religious and moral responsibility before God for every drop of blood spilled on the Jazira land under the guise of conquest and victory, citing the verse, "Whoever kills a soul unless for a soul or for corruption [done in the land] - it is as if he had slain mankind entirely."

The statement concluded by affirming the rejection of religious incitement speech and praying for an end to the violence and bloodshed, saying, "Allah is sufficient for us, and [He is] the best Disposer of affairs, and Allah is the One from whom help is sought for what you describe."
