The Democratic Islam Conference convened a broad meeting in Derbasiyah, in al-Jazira canton, aiming to share its political and religious vision for Syria’s future. The event took place in the city’s Culture and Arts Center, attended by a large number of locals, members of civil institutions, and local councils.

The meeting opened with a moment of silence in honor of the martyrs, followed by a speech from Muhammad Ali Al-Azzo, the administrator of the Democratic Islam Conference in al-Jazira canton. Al-Azzo highlighted that the conference’s ideology is based on the philosophy of leader Abdullah Ocalan and affirmed that its principles rest on women’s freedom, equality, coexistence, and democracy, values that Islam advocates.

Mustafa Abdo, an official in the Administration and Organization Office of the Al-Hasakah Council, presented the conference’s political and religious vision, which included several key points:

Supporting reconciliation efforts among Syrians on the basis of truth, justice, and recognition of the rights of all communities, free from external interference.

Establishing local reconciliation committees that include representatives from various religious groups, including Alawites, Christians, and Druze monotheists.

Promoting dialogue among sects and religions and recognizing their particularities by holding regular forums for religious scholars.

Guaranteeing women’s representation in legislative and executive councils as a right and principle aligned with the spirit of Democratic Islam.

Developing educational curricula based on values of justice, pluralism, consultation (shura), and mercy, with an emphasis on Syria’s history of coexistence.

Empowering youth and women to actively participate in religious, social life, and decision-making.

Monitoring religious discourse and cleansing it of sectarianism and racism.

Adopting a unified, national religious discourse.

Endorsing a decentralized system that guarantees all constitutional rights for every community.

In an intervention, Kholoud Al-Issa, an official in the Women’s Office at the Al-Albeit Association, explained the association’s mission, which aligns with the conference’s approach. It focuses on promoting moderate Islamic values, spreading knowledge, preserving national unity, avoiding internal divisions, supporting coexistence and peace among different sects, and participating in the political process.

The meeting concluded with a strong emphasis on the necessity to enhance the work of the Democratic Islam Conference in Syria and to spread moderate Islamic concepts that advocate pluralism and coexistence.
