Democratic Green Party condemns continued Turkish occupation of Serê Kaniyê ,Tal Abyad

The Democratic Green Party issued a written statement today on the fifth anniversary of the occupation of the cities of Serê Kaniyê and Tal Abyad, which included:

On this day, the Turkish military forces, with the participation of terrorist groups, began their aggression against the safe cities of Serê Kaniyê and Tel Abyad, using internationally banned weapons such as white phosphorus and others. The two cities and their villages were subjected to blatant and savage aggression. Despite the valiant resistance made by the Syrian Democratic Forces to defend the region, the area was occupied, and its residents were displaced from their lands and replaced with terrorists and their families, turning it into a safe haven for ISIS terrorist groups.

Where the aggression resulted in the displacement of hundreds of thousands from their historical lands, making them refugees alongside their villages and properties. Even those who have not been displaced are subjected to various forms of persecution. The two cities and their villages have transformed from a safe area where all components of the region coexist into a region plagued by unprecedented corruption under the umbrella of Turkish occupation and terrorist groups.

The occupation has also worked on demographic changes in the occupied area.

We, in the Democratic Green Party, while condemning the Turkish aggression and its occupation of the region, demand that the United Nations and the International Coalition against Terrorism put an end to the Turkish occupation and facilitate the return of the displaced to their lands and properties in the afflicted cities and villages.

 We also call on citizens to rally around the initiative of the Serê Kaniyê Displaced Persons Committee and stand for five minutes at 4 PM today, October 9, in protest of the Turkish occupation, each in their respective locations.
