The High Election Commission in NE Syria postponed the municipal elections until August, at the request of some political parties.

Today, the High Election Commission of Syria issued Decision No. (5) to postpone the municipal elections that were scheduled to be held on June 11 to August, at the request of the political parties and alliances.

The decision stated: “In response to the demands of the political parties and alliances participating in the electoral process, and in the interest of implementing the electoral process in a democratic manner, the High Electoral Commission in NE Syria decided to postpone the date of the elections scheduled to be held on the eleventh of this month.  This postponement came against the backdrop of the demands of the political parties and alliances participating in the elections in official letters, the parties  called on the High Elections Commission in North and East Syria to officially postpone the elections to another date, explaining this by the limited time of propaganda period and to secure a sufficient period of time to address international organizations in order to monitor the progress of the electoral process in NE Syria.

The political parties and alliances demanding the postponement of the elections are:

· Syrian Democratic Council.

· Alliance of Peoples and Women for Freedom.

· Together for better services.

· The Kurdish Democratic Unity Party in Syria.
