The death toll from the sinking of a ferry in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor city has risen to six, including four children, after the bodies of two more victims were recovered on Wednesday morning.

The ferry, which was carrying civilians, including women and children, sank in Deir ez-Zor, bringing the number of confirmed deaths to six following the recovery of the two victims.

Osama Arabo, head of operations at the Emergency and Disaster Management Directorate in Deir ez-Zor, said rescue teams found the bodies of two victims on Wednesday morning from the ferry accident, which occurred shortly after midnight on Sunday.

Arabo said one of the recovered bodies belonged to an eight-year-old girl, who was found in the town of Marrat, while the other body, belonging to a young man, was found in the Hawija Sakr area.

He added that the bodies were transferred to the National Hospital in Deir ez-Zor to complete legal procedures and hand them over to their families. He noted that the number of recovered victims had risen to six, including four children and two young men.
