Death of infant in Hasakah after exposure to tear gas at hospital in Sheikh Maqsoud

The Afrin–Syria Human Rights Organization announced the death of infant Mohammad Abdulrahman Barakat, aged 8 months, as a result of prolonged exposure to tear gas at Martyr Khaled Al-Fajr Hospital in the Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood of Aleppo, during attacks carried out by mercenaries of the Interim Government backed by the Turkish occupation.

The Afrin–Syria Human Rights Organization issued a statement revealing the death of infant Mohammad Abdulrahman Barakat, 8 months old, after inhaling tear gas at Martyr Khaled Al-Fajr Hospital in the Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood of Aleppo, during attacks by mercenaries of the Interim Government on the area.

The organization confirmed that as a result of the infant’s exposure to tear gas inside the hospital, in addition to spending long hours with his family during displacement from Aleppo to Hasakah amid cold weather conditions and prolonged waiting at checkpoints along the route along with the deterioration of his health condition earlier while he was in the hospital, the child passed away on Tuesday morning, 13 January.

During the violent attacks and indiscriminate shelling carried out by mercenaries of the Interim Government on the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods, a number of children were killed and others injured, with no regard for their young age. Such acts constitute crimes against humanity that rise to the level of war crimes under international law.
