The Syrian Interim Government has signed a memorandum of understanding with U.S. and Qatari companies to explore oil and gas in Syria’s territorial waters.

Today, the Syrian Interim Government signed a memorandum of understanding with the U.S. energy company Chevron and the Qatari company Power International Holding for offshore exploration and drilling for oil and gas in Syria’s territorial waters.

According to an agency affiliated with the Interim Government, the MoU was signed between the Syrian Petroleum Company and both Chevron International and Power International Holding, marking Syria’s first offshore field project.

The signing ceremony took place at the Presidential Palace in Damascus, attended by U.S. envoy Tom Barrack. The agency noted that the memorandum aims to “strengthen strategic partnerships in the energy sector, support development and investment pathways, and advance offshore exploration and drilling for oil and gas in Syria’s territorial waters.”
