The Democratic Autonomous Administration of the North and East Syria Region issued a statement today concerning the siege imposed on the city of Kobani, which stated:

“The Democratic Autonomous Administration of the North and East Syria region launches an urgent appeal to our people and to local and international public opinion, in light of the suffocating siege imposed on the city of Kobani, which has today brought the city to the brink of a real humanitarian catastrophe that threatens the lives of hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians.

Kobani is not merely a city; it is a symbol of resistance and steadfastness. Its name is engraved in the memory of Syrians and the entire world for the great sacrifices it made in confronting terrorism in defense of humanity as a whole. Kobani was the first line of defense for human values and a historical turning point that changed the course of the war against extremism. Therefore, targeting it today constitutes a direct attack on the will of free peoples and on the democratic experience in North and East Syria.

In the face of this catastrophic situation, we stress the utmost necessity of finding a rapid and immediate solution and opening safe corridors that ensure the entry of humanitarian and medical aid, the provision of treatment for the wounded, and the securing of basic needs for the besieged population, without any restriction or condition.

We also hold the international community, the United Nations, and all international humanitarian and human rights institutions and organizations responsible for their legal and moral obligations, and we call on them to intervene immediately and urgently to halt the attacks targeting areas of the Jazira Canton, which threaten stability and civil peace and exacerbate the humanitarian suffering in the region.

In this context, we highly commend the heroic popular resistance demonstrated by the sons and daughters of our people in Hasakah and throughout all areas of al-Jazira Canton, and we salute their steadfastness and unity in the face of attacks and threats. This resistance reflects the awareness of our people and their determination to defend their land, dignity, and democratic project.

At the same time, we emphasize the necessity of escalating the pace of legitimate popular resistance and mobilizing all energies to preserve the achievements of our people that were attained through the sacrifices of the martyrs and the steadfastness of our people, and to defend the future of coming generations based on freedom, dignity, and coexistence.

Silence in the face of what is happening is complicity, and urgent intervention today is a humanitarian responsibility that cannot be postponed.
