DAA highlights Turkey's crimes against the environment

On Wenesday, the Environmental Authority in the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria issued a statement on the occasion of World Environment Day, which stated:

“As is known, since 1973, this day was chosen by the United Nations to be Environment Day, and every year on this day, one of the environmental issues is highlighted. This year’s theme is restoring the land, stopping desertification, and spreading environmental awareness, to confront droughts, and under the slogan “Our land is our future. Together we reclaim our planet.”

On the occasion of this day, we, the Environmental Authority for the North and East Syria, condemn and denounce the policy of the Turkish occupation and its attacks, especially the attacks that have occurred recently, as North and East Syria is going through the election phase.

The Turkish occupation and its mercenaries are carrying out ecological and environmental annihilation in a systematic and organized manner in North and East Syria. During the past few days, they cut down hundreds of trees in Afrin, and of course cutting down trees leads the region towards desertification, and the drying up of the Euphrates River causes painful damage to the environment, agriculture and the geography of the region, as well as actions of the Turkish occupation state and its mercenaries, which systematically cut off water from the region, especially from the city of Hasakah, where hundreds of thousands of residents remained without water, all of these actions directly affect the global ecology.

Therefore, on this day, we appeal to the United Nations and all environmental activists, organizations and parties to see the actions of the Turkish occupation, and to stop these actions in front of public opinion, especially on this day, which is Environment Day and under the slogan “Our land is our future, let us restore our planet together.”

On the other hand, we congratulate this day for all activists, organizations, and ecological movements, and we are also ready to help and work on this day to restore the land, stop desertification, and confront drought. On this basis, we raise our voice under the slogan, “Our environment is our homeland, and protecting the environment is protecting our planet.”
