DAA condemns Homs Explosion, emphasizes Syria’s Need for unified national project

The DAA issued a statement on the bombing that targeted the Ali ibn Abi Talib Mosque in the Wadi al-Dhahab neighborhood of Homs, which killed 8 people and injured 18 others.

The DAA condemned the attack, describing it as criminal and brutal, stating that it violates values, humanity, and ethics, and targets the security and safety of society.

The statement continued:

"This heinous act occurs in a dangerous climate fueled by hate speech and incitement, pushing communities toward conflict instead of unity, and turning places of worship into arenas of violence in an attempt to strike social peace and sow fear and division among the Syrian people. Such crimes do not arise from nothing; they are created by disruptive forces exploiting chaos and division, aiming to spill Syrian blood and fragment society.

In light of Syria’s dire situation, with escalating violence and repeated targeting of civilians, we affirm that Syria urgently needs a unified national project, represented in building a decentralized democratic Syria based on principles of justice and equal citizenship, guaranteeing the rights of all religious and ethnic components without exclusion or discrimination. The absence of this national democratic project opens the door for forces of extremism and incitement, while its adoption is the only way to block those attempting to disrupt the country’s security and shed Syrian blood.

We emphasize that our national and humanitarian responsibility requires calming rhetoric, protecting civilians and places of worship, and holding perpetrators and inciters accountable without exception, because Syria cannot be built on hatred and violence, but on trust, safety, and fostering a culture of coexistence and mutual respect among all its people.

Finally, we extend our deepest condolences to the families of the martyrs, wish a speedy recovery to the wounded, and renew our full solidarity with the people of Homs and all innocent civilians across Syria."
