The Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria issued a statement to public opinion regarding the recent escalation by Syria’s interim government against the people of North and East Syria and the accompanying incitement campaigns in the media.

The statement read:

“The Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria expresses its deep concern and strong condemnation of the unjustified escalation being carried out by factions affiliated with the Syrian transitional government in Damascus, given the grave dangers this approach poses to what remains of the chances for stability and peace in the country.

For more than fifteen years, the Syrian people have endured the horrors of war, destruction, killing, and displacement, paying a heavy price as a result of the policies of tyranny and violence pursued by the former regime. Today, Syrians of all components aspire to turn the page on war, live in dignity and safety, and build a future marked by stability and social peace.

The instigation of new wars, or resorting to unjustified military escalation, would undermine any serious political process, strike at the foundations of civil peace, and deepen division and fragmentation among the Syrian people at a time when we are in the greatest need for unity and cooperation to confront shared challenges.

The Democratic Autonomous Administration reiterates, as it has done many times before, that the language of dialogue and responsible discussion to resolve outstanding issues must prevail among all Syrian forces, far from the language of threats, war, and weapons, which lead only to more bloodshed and destruction. In such a path there are neither winners nor losers, rather, it is the homeland and the Syrian people who pay the price, in a way that completely contradicts the hopes and aspirations of Syrians.

In this context, the Autonomous Administration calls on all Syrian forces and actors to stand united in rejecting hate speech and incitement, to strengthen the brotherhood of peoples and the values of coexistence, and to work together for a decentralized Syria that guarantees the rights of all its citizens without exception.

It also calls on the Syrian transitional government to act with wisdom and responsibility in its decisions, and to prioritize negotiation and political solutions over the language of war and weapons, in the supreme interest of the Syrian people and the unity of the country.

The Autonomous Administration affirms that it remains ready to return to discussing all issues through dialogue and mutual understanding, in order to spare Syrian blood and to thwart the ‘divide and rule’ schemes aimed at provoking conflict among Syrians.

Recently, some intelligence-linked channels and websites have been spreading false information about us and about our relations with states, especially Iran. We stress that we have a consistent political line that takes the will of the peoples, women, and their rights as the basis of our dealings with all governments. Therefore, our position on what is happening in Iran is very clear: we oppose a regime that daily executes women and young Kurds, Arabs, Baloch, and Persians. We believe that a democratic system that guarantees the rights of all components is the only option to save the Iranian people.”
