Committee formed to address integration of students and teachers from Afrin, Sheikh Maqsood, and Ashrafieh

Informed sources confirmed to ANHA agency the formation of a committee to address the situation of students and teachers following the Autonomous Administration curriculum in the Afrin region and the neighborhoods of Sheikh Maqsood and Ashrafiyah. The committee aims to devise mechanisms to compensate for the learning loss resulting from the recent humanitarian conditions that affected students in these areas.

Additionally, the committee will work on finalizing the integration of educational institutions by issuing rosters of students and teachers and validating their credentials. This ensures their inclusion in the educational system in the near future, immediately upon the release of the region's unified curriculum.

According to data documented by ANHA agency, the Sheikh Maqsood and Ashrafiyah neighborhoods housed 13 schools: three affiliated with the Autonomous Administration and ten jointly managed by the Interim Government and the Education Committee, serving approximately 25,000 students.

Of these, 4,000 attend Autonomous Administration educational institutions in the two neighborhoods—which utilize mother-tongue instruction across primary, middle, and secondary levels—as well as the Martyr Zozan Yusuf Institute for teacher training. Afrin was home to 318 schools—including dozens of private ones—serving an estimated student population of over 50,000 and staffed by 3,712 teachers.

It also hosted the Vian Amara Institute, which comprised 11 departments and served a student body of 500.

Furthermore, the city was home to the University of Afrin—the first university established in the Autonomous Administration regions in 2015. It featured six faculties: Medicine, Electromechanical Engineering, Media, Economics, Agriculture, and Kurdish Literature. The university was staffed by 51 specialists and approximately 20 administrative employees, with a total enrollment of 469 students prior to the city's occupation by the Turkish army in 2018.
