Civil Registry in Al-Darbasiyah receives Kurds deprived of citizenship

The Civil Registry Department in the city of Al-Darbasiyah has received dozens of Kurdish citizens who were deprived of Syrian citizenship during the exceptional census conducted on October 5, 1962.

The Civil Registry Department in the city of Al-Darbasiyah opened registration today for unregistered Kurds who were stripped of citizenship in 1962.

Dozens of residents of Al-Darbasiyah flocked to the Civil Registry center from the early morning hours. Registration began at 9:00 a.m. and continued until 3:00 p.m., and will remain open for one month, with the possibility of extension.

The registration process is supervised by 10 employees from the Civil Registry Department, along with the Kurdish Red Crescent and the Syrian Arab Red Crescent. Applicants are required to submit proof of residence and an identification certificate, supported by any additional personal documents to verify their identity.

The Director of the Civil Registry in Al-Darbasiyah, Abdullah Abdullah, explained in a statement to ANHA agency the application process for unregistered individuals. He noted that the relevant authorities are providing the necessary facilitation for citizens, whether individuals or families, on the condition that applications include proof of residence, an identification certificate, and supporting documentation reinforcing the primary records.

He added that the reception committee will study the applications and conduct interviews with applicants in order to officially verify and register their information at a later stage.
