The Director of Civil Registry in Syria, Abdullah Abdullah, announced the extension of the application period for restoring citizenship to unregistered Kurds after the previously specified deadline expired, due to the large turnout of applicants.

Abdullah explained that the extension decision includes Civil Registry centers in Hasakah, Qamishlo, and Çil Agha, with the aim of completing the receipt and organization of applications in accordance with the approved legal procedures, and granting applicants additional time to finalize their official procedures.

He noted that the relevant authorities continue to receive and process applications in coordination with the specialized committees, calling on citizens covered by the decision to visit the designated centers during the extension period to benefit from the new procedures.

The registration period for unregistered persons had originally ended on May 6, while thousands of Kurdish citizens classified as unregistered (Maktoumeen al-Qayd) submitted applications for citizenship restoration through the centers designated for this purpose.
