During the meeting, Catalan Prime Minister Pira Aracúnes spoke about his country's continued support for AANES at all political, humanitarian, economic and development levels. He stressed the need to move forward to strengthen cooperation relations between the two parties, and expressed their readiness to be the voice of the people of the region to communicate their issue to international platforms.

In turn, the co-chair of the Department of External Relations in AANES, Badran Çia Kurd praised the position of the Catalan government and its people in supporting AANES, as well as the efforts made by the Catalan government to support security and stability in the regions of NE Syria.

Çia Kurd referred to the political recognition of AANES by the Catalan Parliament, and said that this step is evidence of the depth of the ties of friendship between the two parties.

Commonalities between the components of NE Syria and the Catalan people

Çia Kurd stated that there are many commonalities between the components of NE Syria and the Catalan people, in terms of struggle and tireless work to consolidate the values of justice, freedom and democracy, and said: “We will make more efforts to raise joint action together and consolidate the bonds of friendship.”

Çia Kurd also touched on the ongoing attacks by the Turkish occupation on the region, and said: “These attacks focus mainly on the destruction of vital facilities and target civilians in their sources of livelihood, and for this reason they are classified as war crimes against humanity."

Çia Kurd stressed the need for the international community to fulfill its responsibilities by putting an end to these horrific crimes and violations, while at the same time supporting the efforts made by the Autonomous Administration and its allies to establish the foundations of security and stability in the regions of NE Syria.
