Body of young found in Qatana, Damascus suburbs

Local sources reported that, following two days of lost contact and his abduction during sectarian violence in Qatana, the body of Majd Hassan Kaboul was returned to his hometown of Arna in Jabal al-Sheikh. His body was discovered in an agricultural orchard near Qatana, having been killed in what his family described as a sectarian act of retaliation. Majd, an only child, a father to a single child, and the owner of a mobile phone shop in Qatana, was targeted amid escalating tensions.

Two days prior, Qatana witnessed sectarian unrest following the killing of a Public Security official from the city, affiliated with the Damascus authority. Protests by the deceased official’s relatives, carrying inflammatory sectarian slogans, escalated into random acts of violence targeting commercial establishments owned by members of the Druze community in the city.

The city also experienced indiscriminate abductions of civilians from Jabal al-Sheikh villages. Local sources confirmed that ten civilians were abducted, including the late Majd Kaboul. According to reports, eight of the abductees were released the following day, Friday, after their families were informed that they had been freed from their captors to ensure their safety. However, Majd and another individual remained unaccounted for until today, when a call confirmed to Majd’s family in Arna that his body had been found.

The wave of sectarian violence in the region included the blocking of main roads leading to Jabal al-Sheikh villages, amid a conspicuous silence from the Damascus authority regarding these recent developments.
