Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani said his visit to Damascus came at the invitation of Syria's transitional president, Ahmed al-Sharaa.

In a post on X, Barzani wrote: "I expressed my confidence in President al-Sharaa's vision and my belief that, under his leadership, Syria is capable of moving toward greater stability, prosperity, and a brighter future for all its people."

He added that he reaffirmed his support for a stable and united Syria where the rights of all ethnic and religious communities are protected. He noted that the meeting also highlighted Syria's role in promoting peace, security, and stability across the region.

Barzani further stated: "As neighbors, Syria, Iraq, and the Kurdistan Region share many common interests. There are also significant opportunities to expand economic cooperation in ways that serve the mutual interests of all our peoples."

For his part, Ahmed al-Sharaa said in a post on X that he welcomed Nechirvan Barzani in Damascus, adding that the meeting focused on bilateral relations and ways to strengthen cooperation in support of stability and the interests of both peoples.

Al-Sharaa added: "We appreciate the care and hospitality the Kurdistan Region has extended to our people over the past years, and we look forward to continuing our joint efforts in a spirit of cooperation and brotherhood that strengthens good neighborly relations."
