Arrest of co-mayors of People's Democratic Party and besieging municipality

The Turkish state police arrested the co-mayors of Akdeniz Municipality in North Kurdistan, Hozhiyar Sarildiz and Nurettin Arslan. The police, who surrounded the municipality building, stated, "A trustee has been appointed to the municipality."

Hozhiyar Sarildiz and Nurettin Arslan, co-mayors of Akdeniz in Mersin, members of the Peoples' Democratic Party, and council members Ozgur Çaglar, Hikmet Bekirhan, and Neslihan Aroç were arrested during a raid on their homes. The reasons for these raids and arrests are still unknown, and the police surrounded the municipality building.

Police officers: A trustee has been appointed to the municipality

Ali Bozan, member of parliament from the Peoples' Democratic Party, who was not allowed to enter the municipality, revealed that the police were searching the municipality building. He said, "The police did not allow us to enter the Akdeniz Municipality building. They told us that the trustee issued a decision preventing our entry. They informed us that a trustee has been appointed to Akdeniz Municipality, and the decision will be published on the Mersin Governorate website. The appointment of a trustee is an arbitrary decision and a deprivation of will, and we will not accept this decision."
