After midnight on Friday-Saturday, armed men attacked members of the "General Security" force of the Damascus government, stationed at the old traffic building in the Sheikh Daher neighborhood of Latakia, with two grenades. A firefight then ensued between both sides.

Eyewitnesses reported that the attackers were four individuals in a car and confirmed they were pursued by a patrol through the city streets. However, the patrol was unable to apprehend them, and no information about casualties has been reported.

On February 9, unknown gunmen attacked the "Criminal Security" branch in Latakia, targeting the area around the building with hand grenades before fleeing.

Meanwhile, the "Criminal Security" personnel were on high alert, increasing their presence in the city, and conducting night patrols in search of the attackers, but to no avail.

On February 2, the Syrian Observatory reported that unknown gunmen attacked the southern police station of the "General Security" in the town of Jableh, south of Latakia, after midnight on Saturday-Sunday. This led to clashes between both sides, causing loud gunfire to echo throughout the town, but there were no reported casualties.
