Armed assailants stormed the Jabal al-Ward neighborhood in the Syrian capital, Damascus, attacking civilians and vandalizing shops, cars, and motorcycles, amid a state of growing lawlessness and the complete absence of the transitional government and its security apparatus.

According to local sources, the unidentified gunmen , carrying weapons and batons raided civilian homes and several commercial shops, assaulting residents and smashing windows, shop interiors, vehicles, and motorbikes.

The sources noted that the attackers wore a mix of clothing, including military and security uniforms, with some of them masked, causing widespread panic among the residents of this predominantly Alawite neighborhood.

The assault reportedly targeted streets and homes primarily belonging to members of the Alawite community. Reports indicated that several civilians were injured, while the transitional government and its security forces failed to intervene.

The Syrian capital, Damascus, has seen multiple attempts to force members of the Alawite sect to leave, through threats, intimidation, and direct violence. Similar incidents have been recorded in neighborhoods such as Soumariya and Mezzeh 86, raising serious concerns that these sectarian-motivated attacks may spread to other areas amid growing fears over an alleged plan to forcibly displace Alawites from the capital.
