The al-Nuzha neighborhood of Homs, a predominantly Alawite district, experienced a serious security incident after a group of armed men in masks attacked the Imam Jaafar al-Sadiq Mosque, which is devoted to the Alawite sect. The attackers targeted the muezzin and threatened him with his life for reciting "Come to the best of deeds" during the call to prayer, according to the Jaafari school of thought.

Sham TV reported that the Imam Jaafar al-Sadiq Mosque committee in the al-Nuzha region resigned after the attack by armed assailants who invaded the mosque, seriously assaulted the muezzin, and threatened to kill him.

This incident is not the first of its kind. The previous muezzin was beaten and assaulted four months ago and had subsequently resigned. The imam of the mosque at the time was threatened with a weapon to force him to stop using Ja'fari school of thought-related phrases.

Following these attacks, the Alawite Islamic Council of Homs decided to suspend religious activities at the mosque until further notice, on condition of assuring the security of the worshippers and of the persons in charge of the mosque.

It is fascinating to hear that the Imam Ja'far al-Sadiq Mosque was built in 1963 with the good will of the people of the region and remained open for prayer since then until these recent attacks.
