Arab Tribes in Jazira Canton endorse leader Ocalan’s call for peace, brotherhood

The joint delegation, composed of representatives from the Council of Elders and the Freedom Initiative, toured several areas in North and East Syria, including Derik, Çil Agha, and the countryside of Girke Lege. They carried leader Abdullah Ocalan’s message to Arab tribal sheikhs and dignitaries, who welcomed it as a “noble humanitarian call” for peace, fraternity, and harmony among peoples.

The meetings included prominent figures such as the Emir of the Zubaid tribe, the Sheikh of Bani Sab’a, Sheikh Fawaz Abdel Hafiz al-Bazo of the al-Bu Asi tribe, Sheikh Hassan Farhan al-Tai, head of the Tai confederation, Sheikh Omar Ali al-Hamid of the al-Bu Sha’ban tribe, and Hassan Salem al-Soufi, a leading figure of the Sharabiyin tribe.

Tribal leaders emphasized that Kurdish–Arab relations are deeply rooted, highlighting the role of the People’s Protection Units (YPG) and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in defending villages and sacrificing martyrs for their protection. They stressed that a common destiny cannot be separated and that coexistence is the only way to confront challenges.

They praised leader Ocalan’s vision, grounded in democracy, freedom, and fraternity, describing it as universal rather than belonging to one community. They called for translating this vision into practical measures that foster tolerance and reject fanaticism, citing intermarriage and kinship between Arab and Kurdish tribes as the foundation of a resilient social fabric.

Tribal notables warned against attempts to sow discord and spread hate speech, describing such efforts as alien to the values of the region. They reaffirmed their commitment to the project of the Syrian Democratic Forces, which they consider simultaneously a military, political, and social force that represents the aspirations of the peoples of North and East Syria.

The delegation concluded its tour—which included nearly 30 tribes across the Canton—by stressing that such meetings aim to strengthen bridges of understanding among communities and to spread Abdullah Ocalan’s message as a pillar of the Democratic Nation project and a genuine guarantee for the unity of peoples and the building of a common future based on freedom and equality.
