Arab League stresses necessity of respecting unity of Syrian lands

The League of Arab States commented on the recent developments taking place in Syria after the attack by the mercenaries of Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham (formerly the Al-Nusra Front) on the areas of Aleppo and the Hama countryside.

The Arab League said in a statement: “The League of Arab States is following with great concern the developments on the ground in Syria, and stresses the need to respect the unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic.”

The statement expressed the alarm of the League's Secretary-General, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, "about the successive developments that the country has been witnessing for several days and their effects on civilians, which open up many possibilities, including the occurrence of chaos that terrorist groups exploit to resume their activities."

The statement affirmed "the commitment of the General Secretariat of the Arab League to all elements of the political position on the situation in Syria, as contained in the decisions of the League Council at its various levels."
