According to a report by the American newspaper The New York Times, quoting officials from Tehran and other countries in the region, Iran began withdrawing its military leaders from Syria on Friday.

The officials told The New York Times that among the Iranian military personnel evacuated to Iraq and Lebanon were senior commanders from the Quds Force of the Revolutionary Guard.

Tehran also evacuated some Iranian diplomats, their families, and Iranian civilians, according to the newspaper's sources.

The officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, stated that the Iranians began leaving Syria on Friday morning after "evacuation orders" were issued by the Iranian embassy in Damascus and Revolutionary Guard bases.

They explained that some left by air to Tehran, while others traveled by land to Lebanon and Iraq, or by sea through the Syrian port of Latakia.
