The Democratic Union Party (PYD) held an expanded meeting today with the residents of the city of Tirbespiyê and its affiliated villages at the party’s office.

The meeting began with a minute of silence in honor of the martyrs. Aldar Khalil, a member of the Presidential Council of the Democratic Union Party, then addressed the attendees, referring to the war currently affecting the Middle East, which he described as resembling a third world war. He also recalled the period of the Sykes–Picot Agreement and the deprivation of the Kurdish people’s rights.

Khalil stated that “Leader Abdullah Ocalan was aware of the changes taking place in the region and the grave dangers threatening the Kurdish people; therefore, he launched the call for Peace and a Democratic Society.”

He pointed out that the changes witnessed in Syria and the broader region, as well as the convergence of regional powers’ interests, have had a direct impact on the autonomous administration and on the war against ISIS/Deash. He noted that the 10 March agreement was a step aimed at preventing war, but that many external actors attempted to undermine it.

Khalil further asserted that the Paris meeting marked the beginning of a new conspiracy against the Kurdish people, starting with a media campaign targeting the thought and principles of the Autonomous Administration and its democratic project for Syria, alongside attempts to sow discord between Kurds and Arabs.

He stressed that Abdullah Ocalan had sent messages warning of attempts to annihilate the Kurdish people, and had also warned the Turkish state that continued attacks on Rojava would derail the call for Peace and a Democratic Society and push the region toward comprehensive war. This, he said, led to a meeting of the parties concerned with the Syrian file and the signing of the 29 January agreement.

Aldar Khalil added that the Kurds will participate in shaping Syria’s future, and that the joint Kurdish delegation is still awaiting a meeting with officials of the Interim Government in Damascus to discuss the Kurdish issue. He noted that the Interim Government is delaying the implementation of the provisions of the 29 January agreement, including the right to education in the Kurdish language, the issue of detainees, and the complete lifting of the siege on the city of Kobani.
