Gold  mine collapsed in the town of Ilic, affiliated with the city of Erzinjan in northern Kurdistan, in the middle of last February, resulting in the erosion of the soil and the drift of tons of toxic mine waste into the Euphrates River.

In this regard, the Environmental Authority of the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria issued a statement in which it stated that due to “the destruction and damage that occurred, there are some signs of environmental disasters, especially since this disaster threatens the Euphrates River, which will pose a real and major danger to the countries through which it passes. (Turkey, Syria, Iraq).”

The statement added: Turkey is hiding this matter, and is not revealing it to the public opinion. The most important thing that has been used in the gold mines is the jar material. The most famous and dangerous substance is cyanide, and this substance is a dangerous chemical, and tens of tons of this substance have spread on the ground and in the water.

The statement appealed to "public opinion and international environmental organizations concerned with the environment and climate to carry out their duty and responsibility to care for the environment and protect society."
