Yesterday, a delegation from the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria held a meeting with the parliamentarian from the Austrian Green Party, Eva Ernst, in the parliament building in the capital, Vienna.

The delegation included the representative of the Autonomous Administration in Europe, Abdul Karim Omar, the representative of the Democratic Union Party’s relations in Europe, Mizgen Ahmed, and the administration’s representative in Austria, Ari Malan.

The two parties exchanged views on the situation and developments throughout Syria, and the NE Syria in particular, as well as the most prominent challenges facing the Autonomous Administration at the political, humanitarian, economic and security levels.

The Autonomous Administration delegation touched on the repercussions of the ongoing war in Gaza on the situation in the NE Syria, pointing out that the Turkish state took advantage of the international community’s preoccupation with the Gaza war to escalate its attacks on the administration’s areas.

The delegation pointed out that these attacks exacerbated the humanitarian situation, “as more than a million people now live without electricity, and there is extreme difficulty in securing domestic gas because the attacks led to the complete destruction of the only gas station in our regions, which used to supply five million people.”

The delegation pointed out that "the recent increase in attacks launched by ISIS cells in the region is the greatest evidence that the organization is the beneficiary of attempts to destabilize security in our regions. Therefore, if the international community wants to stop migration and continue to combat terrorism, it must fulfill its responsibilities in supporting the Autonomous Administration at all political, humanitarian, military and other levels.”

For her part, parliamentarian Eva Ernst said, “The attacks launched by Turkey, as well as its attempts to establish military zones inside Syrian territory, are matters that violate international law. Although Turkey is a member of NATO and is a partner of Austria, which also has a close relationship with NATO, Ankara is acting by itselfe  and ignoring all the aid provided to the region, which results in a worsening of the humanitarian situation and makes reconstruction attempts in those areas impossible.”

Ernst added, "We in the Green Party call on the European Union to condemn the Turkish attacks on NE Syria because they undermine the stability of the region, increase migration waves, and at the same time strike efforts to end human suffering. We also call on the European Union to directly investigate the crimes committed by Turkey there."

At the conclusion of the meeting, the delegation of the Autonomous Administration and Parliamentarian Eva Ernst held a meeting with the Austrian media, during which a briefing was given on developments  in the NE Syria, and journalists’ questions and inquiries were answered.

It is noteworthy that the Autonomous Administration delegation currently in the Austrian capital, Vienna, also held a series of meetings with the Central Vienna Municipality, the Director of Human Rights in the Vienna Municipality, and the Ninth Municipality’ Mayor of Vienna, as well as a meeting with the Rainer Institute for Studies affiliated with the Austrian Social Democratic Party, and with the Volkshilfe Organization. Which supports projects in Al-Shahba, Sheikh Maqsoud and Jazera.
