AANES delegation holds meeting in Belgian Federal Parliament

A delegation from the AANES held a meeting with the parliamentarian of the Belgian Humanitarian Democratic Party, Georges Delmon. 

During the meeting, Dr. Abd al-Karim Omar pointed out the lack of prospects for a political solution in the country, and said: "There are currently no actual movements to end the Syrian crisis, and some of the attempts that were made during the previous stages did not reach any results; the parties that claim to be seeking a solution are far from taking into account the ambitions and aspirations of the Syrians."

Omar touched on the recent attacks launched by the Turkish occupation on NE Syria, and stressed: "These attacks mainly targeted vital infrastructure and facilities, which led to the deprivation of millions of citizens in the targeted areas of vital services, in addition to the attacks caused dozens of civilians to lose their lives."

Omar also touched on the initiative proposed by the Autonomous Administration to host Syrian refugees, and stressed: "This initiative comes out of national and humanitarian motives, and that the Autonomous Administration has confirmed through it, its readiness to receive any Syrian refugees who want to come to its areas, provided that this return is voluntary, safe and under the auspices of the United Nations."

Regarding the Autonomous Administration’s decision to try some ISIS members, Omar said: "We were forced to take this step given the international community’s ignoring of all our calls for assistance in establishing a special court in our regions to try ISIS members involved in committing war crimes and crimes against humanity.

The AANES is committed to conducting the trials scheduled to be held in a transparent and public manner, in the presence of international observers, and taking into account international laws.

In turn, the parliamentarian for the Belgian Humanitarian Democratic Party, Georges Delmon, spoke and said: "The situation in the Middle East, according to what we see now, is heading towards escalation. There are indeed complex problems that require sincere international intentions to find appropriate solutions. The Syrian crisis, in turn, is one of those crises that faces a series of obstacles that prevent it from ending. We believe that any future solution must first and foremost respect the will of Syrians of all sects, segments and nationalities."

Regarding the AANES' decision to hold trials for ISIS members, Delmon said: "We completely understand that the Autonomous Administration has taken this step, and it is truly surprising that the international community has ignored its calls to solve this serious problem, which not only constitutes a heavy burden on the Autonomous Administration that exceeds the capabilities of other countries to solve it. Indeed, the presence of this large number of members of the most dangerous terrorist organization inside the detention centers in NE Syria threatens to detonate the situation and return terrorism again at any moment, and if this happens, in addition to the fact that it will strike security and stability in the areas of the AANES, it will once again constitute a major security problem for Europe and for the whole world."

Delmon, also pointed to the humanitarian conditions as a result of the ongoing attacks on various regions of Syria, and said: “We know that there is a significant deterioration in the humanitarian conditions as a result of the war that has been going on for more than a decade in Syria. It seems that the suffering of people in some areas has increased recently, as a result of Turkish attacks on vital service facilities, and it is a sad and disturbing thing that the civilian people is being fought over their sources of livelihood, while the international community remains silent about these clear and explicit violations of the International laws."
