24,144 dunums of crops burned in Hasaka

Statistics compiled by Hasaka Governorate Agriculture Directorate—covering the period up to July 5, 2026—reveal that fires affecting agricultural lands during the current season resulted in the burning of 24,144 dunams of land planted with strategic crops. Additionally, damage was sustained by agricultural machinery, equipment, and fruit trees.

These statistics were produced as part of the monitoring and documentation efforts carried out by the Hasaka Agriculture Directorate. They are based on assessments and data received from agriculture directorates across the governorate’s cities and towns, aiming to quantify the damage caused by fires affecting agricultural lands during the current season.

According to the report, preliminary data indicate that the fires caused extensive losses to strategic agricultural crops, alongside damage to agricultural machinery, equipment, and areas of fruit trees.

24,144 Dunams of Agricultural Land Burned

The statistics show that the total area of ​​damaged agricultural land reached 24,144 dunams, distributed as follows:

Wheat: 18,909 dunams.

Barley: 2,758 dunams.

Black cumin: 1,713 dunams.

Lentils: 380 dunams.

Coriander: 308 dunams.

Grass peas: 20 dunams.

Fava beans: 22 dunams.

Anise: 15 dunams.

Vegetables: 8 dunams.

Cotton: 6 dunams.

Breakdown of Burned Areas

The report indicated that the burned areas were distributed by crop type as follows:

For the wheat crop, 7,330 dunams of irrigated land and 11,579 dunams of rain-fed land were burned.

As for the barley crop, the damaged areas amounted to 71 dunams of irrigated land and 2,687 dunams of rain-fed land

Regarding black cumin, the burned areas totaled 20 dunams of irrigated land and 1,693 dunams of rain-fed land.

For lentils, 50 dunams of irrigated land and 330 dunams of rain-fed land were reported burned.

As for coriander, the damaged areas amounted to 20 dunams of irrigated land and 288 dunams of rain-fed land.

Additionally, 25 irrigated dunams of grass pea and 22 irrigated dunams of fava beans were burned, along with 8 dunams of vegetables, 6 dunams of cotton, and 15 rain-fed dunams of anise.

Damage to Equipment and Fruit Tree

The losses were not limited to agricultural crops; the Directorate of Agriculture documented damage to agricultural property, including the burning of irrigation hoses, networks, and sprinklers. Damage also extended to areas planted with olive and grape trees, the burning of straw bales, and the destruction of a "975" model agricultural harvester in the town of Gurbawi

The Directorate of Agriculture emphasized that these figures reflect the scale of losses sustained by the agricultural sector in Hasaka Governorate, noting that fires affected thousands of dunams of strategic crops and destroyed agricultural equipment and fruit trees.
