On the 11th of May, the KDP authorities closed the Faysh Khabour border crossing, separating the regions of North and East Syria and Southern Kurdistan, without notifying the Semalka crossing administration.

The importance of the crossing lies - and still is - for Rojava in that it is the only outlet that connects the region with the outside, especially at the beginning of the revolution when the region was witnessing a suffocating siege from all sides, so the Semalka crossing was an outlet with great influence, since its opening in 2013.

Politicians in North and East Syria believe that the closure of the Semalka border crossing at the present time serves the policy and goals of the enemies of the Kurds.

The head of the Kurdistan Republican Party's office in the city of Hasakah, Muhammad Ahmad, indicated that the closure of the KDP authorities, the Faysh Khabour border crossing, is a catastrophe and a crime against the Kurdish people.

Ahmed believes that the closure of the crossing will greatly affect national unity, and the goal is to create a rift between the Kurdish people and the Kurdistanian community. He stressed that closing the crossing during this period in particular serves Erdogan's policy and goals in the region, in conjunction with the holding of presidential and parliamentary elections in Bakur (Northern Kurdistan) and Turkey.

The crossing was closed by the Kurdistan Democratic Party several times, in August 2020, February and December 2021, and in February it prevented the crossing of humanitarian aid for those affected by the earthquake.

A member of the leadership body of the Kurdish Democratic Unity Party in Syria (Yekiti), Salah Berro, confirms that the closure of the border crossing, the main artery and the only passage for North and East Syria, negatively affects the people of the region in terms of economic, humanitarian and health.

Salah Berro stressed that the border crossing should not be subject to political agendas, as it is a humanitarian crossing that serves all the people of the region on both sides. He called on the Kurdistan Democratic Party to take into account the public interest.

Yesterday, the Semalka crossing administration promised, in a statement, that the administration of Faysh Khabour would close the crossing, as the KDP officials sought to favor the ENKS leaders over the people, and put the crossing at their service.
