​​​​​​​Çiya Kurd: There are common issues between AANES and Arab countries

On Sunday, May 7, the Arab States League voted to restore Damascus' membership after it was expelled for more than 10 years, following the outbreak of the Syrian crisis.

Badran Çiya Kurd, the co-chair of the Department of Foreign Relations of the AANES, explained: "The Syrian public interest require the return of Syria to its Arab surroundings, which is its strategic depth. Provided that this step does not constitute an obstacle to the political solution to the Syrian crisis, which has entered its thirteenth years; Rather, work must be done according to an approach to make the decision to return Syria to the Arab League an important step in advancing the political process in Syria and stimulating a political solution to the crisis."

During the meeting of the League Council, in its extraordinary session held on May 7 in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, the League of Arab States voted to restore Damascus' membership after it was expelled for more than 10 years following the Syrian crisis.

Badran Çiya Kurd noted that the Arab League's affirmation in its final statement on a political solution in accordance with Resolution 2254 is welcome, and explained: "We affirm our support for any arab efforts that serve this path."

Badran Çiya Kurd emphasized: "It is very important to achieve an Arab consensus on realistic political visions that achieve a consensual solution that guarantees the rights of all Syrian components, as well as rejecting the Turkish occupation of Syria, and working to end it is an urgent necessity for a comprehensive solution."

Çiya Kurd indicated that there are common issues between the Syrian situation and the Arab countries, as well as between the Autonomous Administration and the Arab countries that can be worked on jointly to overcome the issues that both sides suffer from.

The head of the Foreign Relations Department confirmed that the Autonomous Administration in north and east Syria can play an important role in the next stage, because it has elements in several areas (political - economic - security - humanitarian) that concern Arab countries and the Syrian solution, since the Syrian political solution does not pass through Damascus alone, but all Syrians must participate in crystallizing a solution and taking serious and effective steps, and he noted: "We have shown our flexibility in this regard through the political initiative that we launched previously."

Badran Çiya Kurd drew attention to the fact that: "We cannot expect direct results for Syria's return to the Arab League, and these results remain dependent on the factor of time and the extent of the Syrian government's ability to meet some demands within the framework of a political solution and its ability to change, but we are optimistic that the Arab countries will contribute to move the political process forward."
