2022 witnessed a remarkable escalation in the crime rate within the areas under the control of the Damascus government, in light of the failure of the security services to put an end to the security chaos spreading throughout its regions.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights documented 159 murder crimes during the past year; that left 174 civilians dead: 30 women, 32 children and 112 men and young men.

Despite the Damascus government's attempts to show that the areas under its control have become safe and livable after "the elimination of terrorism," as it described it, the reality proves the exact opposite. As observers believe that the government; It secures an appropriate situation for corruption and crime through the royalties imposed by the security checkpoints on the roads, the public request for bribes, the corruption of officials, with the absence of government oversight.
