Political analyst on Hakan Fidan's visit to Iraq: Turkey wants to form a Sunni region in Iraq

 On Saturday, the head of the Turkish fascist state intelligence, Hakan Fidan, visited the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, during which he met with the caretaker prime minister, Speaker of Parliament Muhammad al-Halbousi, and a number of Iraqi officials, before the head of the Sovereignty Coalition, Khamis al-Khanjar, visited  its content is revealed.

 Who is Khamis al-Khanjar?

 Khamis Farhan Al-Khanjar Al-Issawi is an Iraqi businessman and millionaire who enjoys great power at the Iraqi and regional levels.

In October 2015, an Iraqi court issued an arrest warrant for al-Khanjar, who hails from the city of Fallujah, in accordance with the anti-terrorism law and decided to confiscate his money in the country.

 At that time, the Iraqi judiciary also decided to seize the movable and immovable funds of Khanjar, after he was accused of supporting terrorism.

 In 2014, al-Khanjar funded a force of 3,000 militants trained by Turkey (the Nineveh Guards forces) under the pretext of fighting ISIS.

 In 2019, the United States imposed sanctions on al-Khanjar on corruption charges, in addition to 3 Iraqi militia leaders on charges of killing protesters and human rights violations.

 And a statement of the US Treasury at the time quoted a former high-ranking official in the Iraqi government, the influence of Al-Khanjar is due mostly to his willingness and ability to use his wealth to bribe others.

 The Treasury Department statement indicated that al-Khanjar provided large sums of money to Iraqi political figures in order to mobilize support and secure the appointment of one of its candidates to a position within the Iraqi government.

 Exceeding diplomatic norms

 Al-Khanjar is headed by the Sovereignty Alliance, which was formed on January 25, 2022, and consists of the "Progress" alliance headed by Muhammad al-Halbousi and the "Azm" alliance headed by Khamis al-Khanjar.

 Al-Khanjar had previously met with the head of the Turkish occupation state, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and he defends Turkish interests in Iraq and aspires to establish a Sunni region and to be a representative of Iraq's Sunnis.

The Iraqi political analyst, Riyad Al-Wahaili, spoke to our agency about this visit, saying: "The visit exceeded diplomatic norms as a director of intelligence, and he meets with figures representing political blocs, and these personalities meeting him clearly represents the dependence of these figures on the Turkish axis."

 This visit is the first of its kind after the massacre committed by Turkey during the bombing of a tourist area in Dohuk, in addition to it coincides with the continuous bombing carried out by Turkey on Iraqi territory.

 Al-Khanjar meets Masoud Barzani after visiting Fidan

 This visit comes in light of an Iraqi political crisis, one of the main causes of which is external factors, as Turkey seeks to have an influence and a political share similar to that of Iran.

 Following the visit of the Turkish intelligence chief, the head of the Sovereignty Coalition and his partner, the Speaker of Parliament, visited Erbil, where they met their ally, the head of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, Massoud Barzani.

 Al-Wahaili stressed that "Hakan wants to have the political path of the Sunni component in Iraq in his hand, so he wants to pressure the other parties involved in the political process for the sake of Turkish gains in Iraq, especially since dialogues will take place in order to form the next government and draw political visions for the next stage."

 He added, "There is an opinion indicating that Turkey seeks to form a Sunni region in Iraq and guarantee its interests there, especially since Turkey seeks to have the energy route through it to Europe."

External interference obstructs solutions

 In light of the dispute between the Sadrist movement and the coordinating framework, the Sadrist movement demands the “coalition of sovereignty” to withdraw from the Iraqi parliament in an attempt to undermine the legitimacy of the parliament.  The constitutional benefits represented in the election of a president of the republic and the formation of a government with full powers.

 On this, the Iraqi political analyst said: “There is a insistence by the leaders of the coordination framework to hold a session of parliament after the forty-year visit, and also to complete consultations with the political blocs in order to hold a session with a full quorum.  Al-Sadr to include him in the cabinet.

 He added, "The current political crisis and political blockage due to the results of the controversial elections and the interference of foreign will in the Iraqi situation. The solution lies in the concession of all political parties to reach a meeting point during which the current reality can be promoted, all constitutional entitlements are completed, and the federal budget approved."
