Body exhumations process from mass grave in Manbij ended

ANHA’s correspondents reported that the exhumation of the bodies ended this morning, after 29 bodies were recovered from the mass grave that was found next to the Democratic Civil Administration building in the center of Manbij.

The mass grave was found by workers of the People’s Municipality in the city of Manbij on Wednesday morning, July 28, while digging works in the sewage canals next to the administration building, which was formerly known as the “Manbij Hotel.”

As a result, teams from the Internal Security Forces and the Health Committee began exhuming the bodies. At first, 6 bodies were recovered, and then after continuing the work, the teams were able to exhume 29 bodies.

The Democratic Civil Administration in Manbij did not make any statements to the media until the completion of the collecting of information and all the details, in addition to verifying the identity of the bodies.

However, according to the information obtained by ANHA’s correspondents, the bodies that were found are likely to be those who had been kidnapped by ISIS during the occupation Manbij city from the beginning of 2014 until August 2016, before the Manbij Military Council, with the support of the Syrian Democratic Forces, managed to liberate the city and its countryside.

According to preliminary estimates, there are two minor children among the bodies. While most of the bodies were handcuffed and blindfolded, which increases the hypothesis that these were among the kidnapped by ISIS.

This is not the first time that mass graves have been found in the Syrian cities occupied by ISIS during the period of its spread on the Syrian geography, as hundreds of bodies were previously found in 28 mass graves in the city of Raqqa, which was the most prominent stronghold of mercenaries in Syria.
