Sere Kaniye IDP Committee: settlement project contrary to Res 2254

Turkish occupation state seeks to annex more Syrian lands in north and East Syria to the Turkish territory exerting every means to meet that end after its direct interference in the Syrian file and to revive the Neo-Ottomanism.

More recently the Turkish President Recey Tayip Erdogan said that by the so-called Voluntary Return his country seeks to return to Syria. The Turkish project is to build settlements in all areas under the Turkish and mercenary groups occupation in Afrin, Sere Kaniye and Gire Spi after its indigenous people were forcibly displaced from their territories.

On the project ANHA met spokesperson for the Sere Kaniye IDP Committee Mahmoud Jamil who told ANHA that : ''interference of the Turkish occupation state diverted the peaceful and democratic course of the revolution''.

Mahmoud said Turkish occupation state recruited thousands of Syrians to meet its projects in the region adding that almost 9000km of the Syrian territories was occupied by the Turkish occupation state.

Mahmoud said the Turkish project is an extension to the demographic change already taking place in the Syrian territories and to change its historical and cultural legacies in preparation to be annexed to Turkish territories. The first step is to settle a million Syrian refugees as a first batch made up of three millions on the border zones in areas under occupation.

 According to Mahmoud Jamil the settlement project poses threat to the social fabric of the Syrian communal coherence and the co-habitation in the region adding that it goes in direct contradiction to the Res 2254 unanimously passed by the United Nations Security Council dated 18 December 2015 that stipulates mong others for the return of IDPs and refugees to their homes and territories.

Jamil went on to say that they would never ever accept such a project to settle strangers in the region. Those are going to be tools for Erdogan in the region . we will stand up to this project by every possible means within our right to defence either peacefully or militarily''.

Jamil said the Turkish occupation state has a political end by this project; internally, there are the elections to be held and to get finances as the Turkish economy suffers from hardships.

Mahmoud called on the international community and the UN Security Council to deter Turkey that interferes in the Syrian issues and in NES and to work out to stop the demographic change already taking place. Mahmoud said Turkey deepens the Syrian crisis.
