Armenians see in democratic nation project, salvation

The Armenians in northern, north and eastern Syria see in the democratic nation project a salvation for the oppressed peoples, and a way to revive the diverse cultures that have been destroyed by the annihilation policies practiced against them, stressing that the Turkish state is an extension of the annihilation policy that began with the Ottoman Empire.

April 24 marks the anniversary of the genocide committed by the Ottoman Empire against the Armenians in 1915, when about 250 people from the elite of the Armenian community (leaders, intellectuals, writers and clerics) were executed in Istanbul, to be the beginning of larger massacres that extended to include Syriacs and Assyrians.

More than one and a half million Armenians were killed, according to the statistics announced by the Armenians about the number of victims of the genocide carried out by the Ottoman Empire before its fall at the end of the First World War, at the instigation and support of the dominant powers such as Britain, Germany and Russia, according to what was pointed out by the joint president of the Armenian Social Council.  In the city of Hasaka, Imad Tatrian.

Tatrian notes that the massacres of the Ottomans and the Turks were not limited to the Armenians, the Syriacs, the Assyrians and the Chaldeans, but also included the Kurdish and Arab people in the various areas under the control of the Ottoman Empire, stressing that it continues to commit massacres against peoples in its new form within the borders of the Turkish state headed by Recep Tayyip Erdogan.  Pointing to the massacres and attempts by the Turkish occupation army and its mercenaries to exterminate peoples in north and east Syria.

Many international organizations have officially recognized the Armenian Genocide, such as the “United Nations, the European Parliament, the Council of Europe, the World Council of Churches, the Human Rights Organization, the Turkish Human Rights Association, and the YMCA.”  20 countries also recognize the Armenian Genocide.

These massacres took place in stages, the first included Armenian intellectuals and thinkers, the second included the males and the third included women, children and the elderly through logistic lines within the death marches, according to the member of the Armenian Social Council in the city of Hasaka, Anahit Qasbian.

She explained, "These massacres against the Armenian component were committed by the Ottoman Empire in the name of religion, in different ways and methods, by burning them in churches, mass killing and slaughter, and deporting women and children to other countries."

The democratic project, "the democratic nation", on which the peoples of northern and eastern Syria depend, stemming from the ideas of the leader Ocalan, provided protection for the components and cultures of the region, which were threatened with extinction, in light of the political genocides and cultural melting to which peoples, including the Armenians, were subjected, by establishing the concept of  Self protection.

Tatrian describes what the Armenians enjoy in north and east Syria, "The Armenians have a right within the democratic nation's project, and today they live under one roof with the rest of the components, and they exercise their legitimate rights in the region, and an Armenian military force has been established to protect the Armenians and prevent the recurrence of those massacres."

Tatrian attributed the genocide that was committed against the Armenians at the time, to the lack of self-reliance and the absence of a force defending the Armenian component, and standing in the face of those massacres.

Anahit Qasbian asserts that the democratic project granted the Armenians and the rest of the components greater freedom and rights, and contributed to the development and strengthening of the components at various "military, political and social" levels, and enabled them to be self-reliant in defense of rights that might be usurped in their absence.

"In light of this project, we have restructured various Armenian institutions, at the military, political and social levels, and revived Armenian history and culture more accurately," she said, calling on all the peoples of the region to close ranks and confront the policy of the Turkish occupation state against the region and its peoples, to prevent the recurrence of these genocides against peoples.

Despite all the evidence of the premeditated killing of Armenians, the Turkish authorities refuse to recognize the Armenian Genocide and criminalize in Article 305 of the Turkish Penal Code anyone who recognizes it.
