Notables of Shammar clan: we call upon al-Kazemi to stop building separation wall

This came during his participation, with other notables of Arab clans in Al-Jazira region, to the people in a demonstration that took place Tuesday at the border at the former crossing point between Shengal district and Al-Hol district of Al-Hasakah canton, rejecting and denouncing the policy of the Al-Kazemi government and the Kurdistan Democratic Party (PDK), and the separation wall that is being built between the Shengal district and Rojava.

The Iraqi army, in cooperation with the forces of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, has been building since the middle of last March a separation wall on the border between Shengal district and Rojava, with a length of 250 km and a height of about 4 meters, to complete the agreement of the 9th of December 2020 on Shengal.

The notable of the Shammar clan in the Jazira region, Ghaleb al-Saadoun, sees the construction of the wall as an effort by the Al-Kazemi government to isolate the cousins, clans, and tribes on both sides from each other.

He said: "We are on both sides of the border and in the two countries we are linked by brotherhood and blood kinship, and this separation wall that is being built is intended to cut the ties of these clans and cut off communication between the families on both sides. When our people on the Iraqi side were exposed to ISIS terrorism, including the people in Shengal, it was seen how our forces intervened to provide support and save our people due to the kinship that unites us.”

Al-Saadoun expressed his indignation and categorical rejection of the wall that is being built on the border, saying: "We do not accept the construction of this separation wall, and the isolation of our clans from each other, and this concrete wall does not mean anything to us, and does not represent the vision of the clans on both sides, but we are the sons of one region and peoples united."

The notable of the Shammar clan in Al-Jazira region, Ghaleb Al-Saadoun, sent a letter to the Al-Kazemi government, asking it to reconsider the decision, which he considered wrong and incorrect, harming the region and destabilizing its security, contrary to what he promotes as protecting peoples on both sides.
