A rally was organized this afternoon, in the village of Khalaf in the Sinuni district, to denounce the attempts of the Al-Kadhimiya government to create boundaries between communities.

Many Yazidi and Arab personalities participated in the march.  The participants chanted the slogans "Free  Şengal", "Let the traitors be removed" and "Long live the unity of the peoples."  They carried placards that read, "We will not accept the fencing of our villages. We consider this decision a policy to eliminate the unity of peoples." At the end of the march, a statement was read in front of a point for the concentration of Iraqi soldiers.  The statement was read by the co-chair of Hasweik village council, Khader Saleh.

The text of the statement stated:

"We, the Arab and Yazidi clans and heads of clans in  Şengal, strongly condemn the Iraqi government's decision to put iron fences between the Arab and Yazidi villages. We also consider this decision a violation of social and clan principles in the region. We know that there have been many wars on this land. And all of them always wanted differentiate between Arabs and Yazidis, but they have not been able to achieve their goal to this day. On the contrary, we have always lived together as brothers. Therefore, as Arab nationalists in the region, we find that the decision to fence our villages is against the interests of the region. And these fences will eliminate peaceful coexistence between the components of the region.  It will also leave an economic vacuum.

We call for an end to the decision to fence off our villages, because the consequences of this decision will be against the interests of the Iraqi state and the region in general.  We call on the Iraqi government to rethink the issue of fencing the villages and to take a decision that is far from satisfying the Iraqi political parties. Rather, a decision must be taken that satisfies the peoples of the region.  We also do not want our region to be a victim of the hostile policy applied in Iraq."

The statement ended with chanting the slogans “Long live the unity of the peoples” and “Long live a free and democratic Iraq.”,
